NorCal Academy girls basketball team takes first at college showcase

The NorCal Academy 11th-grade club girls basketball team returned to Sonoma County after taking first place at a college showcase tournament this week in San Diego.

The NorCal team, made up of players from Analy, Santa Rosa, Maria Carrillo, Montgomery and Windsor high schools, finished the four-day tournament 7-0 and was crowned champion of the 56-team All-Star Bracket at the MSNM Pacific Coast Championships.

Led by All-Empire Player of the year Katie Daly of Santa Rosa High, the NorCal squad defeated Triple Threat Hoops Red, 56-43, in the championship game.

Coached by Jeff Paul and Erik Oden, the team also featured All-Empire players Devin Murray (Santa Rosa) and Jenna Petray (Analy), NBL All-League players Kylie Oden (Santa Rosa) and Andrea Flinn (Windsor), as well as Niambi Saint Louis, Madison Nordby and Hayley Kobrij from Montgomery, Vai Thompson from Maria Carrillo and Emily Codding from Santa Rosa. Claire Wheeler, an NBL All-League player at Maria Carrillo, and Santa Rosa’s Maddie Taylor did not play because of injuries.
