Empire swimmers make national teams

A trio of Empire swimming greats has been named to USA Swimming national teams.
Maya DiRado, now at Stanford, and Molly Hannis, swimming at Tennessee, made the 2013-2014 National Team.
Petaluma high’s Riley Scott was named to the 2013-14 National Junior Team.
Athletes named had the top six times, in Olympic Events, from the 2013 Phillips 66/USA Swimming Nationals and World Championship Trials, the 2013 World University Games, the 2013 World Championships, and the 2013 U.S. Open.
DiRado, the former Maria Carrillo great, was named in three events. She has the second best time in both the 400 individual medley and the 200 butterfly, and is sixth in the 200 freestyle. DiRado swam at the FINA World Championships, in July
Hannis, out of Santa Rosa high, has the fourth best national time in the 100 breaststroke.
The junior squad has athletes with the top six times from all USA Swimming or FINA sanctioned meets this year.
Scott swam the fastest 200 breast for the nation’s junior women this year, earning her a spot in the recent FINA World Junior Championships. She is a junior at Petaluma.
