Volleyball: Sonoma State’s Densberg wins national, conference player of the week honors

Coming off an MVP weekend in the Sonoma State volleyball tournament, Madelyn Densberger earned national and conference player of the week honors.

In four matches at the Seawolf Spike, the second-year player from St. Helena High had 45 kills. Showing her defensive skill set, Densberger also totaled 39 digs in the tournament, helping Sonoma State to a 4-0 record.

Densberger was named Sports Import/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Week after picking up California Collegiate Athletic Association Volleyball Player of the Week honors.

The only other time a Sonoma State volleyball athlete won national player of the week honors was Christina (Difani) Lore in 1997.

Densberger’s great weekend came as Sonoma State — ranked 18th in NCAA Division II — enters conference play with a 7-1 record.

Sonoma State hosts 22nd-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and 8th-ranked UC San Diego on Saturday. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
