Empire prep sports teams are raising funds and awareness for breast cancer at games in coming weeks.

Montgomery’s boys and girls varsity soccer teams host Maria Carrillo in an annual event Oct. 9 honoring breast cancer survivors.

Funds raised will go to the Casting for Recovery Program, a national organization with regional retreats — including across California — focused on healing.

Game times are 5 p.m. for the girls match and 7:30 p.m. for the boys. Area youth soccer teams are encouraged to attend in their uniforms.

The Rancho Cotate Associated Student Body and Athletic Department hosts breast cancer awareness fundraisers at a number of athletic events. Bake sales and donation canisters will be available with all proceeds going to research.

Rancho Cotate games and dates for cancer fundraisers: Football vs. Ukiah, Oct. 4; Girls Soccer vs. Cardinal Newman, Oct. 9; girls tennis vs. Maria Carrillo, Oct. 15; volleyball vs. Casa Grande, Oct. 17; boys soccer vs. Montgomery, Oct. 22; cross country vs. Casa Grande, Oct. 30.
