Volleyball: Casa Grande rallies past Windsor

After falling behind early, Casa Grande rallied behind Gabby Banaszek to defeat visiting Windsor in a North Bay League match Thursday night.

The Gauchos dropped the first set 23-25 and then won the next three 25-16, 25-20 and 25-17.

“We started putting it together midway through the first set,” coach Jillian Forni said. “We just missed catching up in the first game but then we played like we can in the last three sets.”

Banaszek, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, had 29 kills. Hannah Barlow finished with 20 assists and Sadie Welch was credited with 14 digs. Casa is 7-11 and 3-5 in league while Windsor is 16-6 and 5-3.

MONTGOMERY SWEEPS

At Santa Rosa High, Montgomery freshman setter McKenna LaForge dished out 24 assists as the Vikings defeated Santa Rosa 25-12, 27-25 and 25-18.

With the win, Montgomery improves to 7-1 in league and 10-6 overall.

Libero Regina Pigsley also had a big game for the Vikings. The defensive specialist came up with 16 digs.

Santa Rosa, now 4-12 and 1-7 in league, was led by senior Allegra VonArx with 20 sets.

UKIAH GETS WIN

At Rohnert Park, Ukiah posted a straight-sets win over Rancho Cotate.

The Wildcats prevailed by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-22.

“We started every game in the hole and then just couldn’t get over the hump,” Cougars coach Marissa Hanneman said.

“The effort was there but we just made mistakes it turned out we couldn’t overcome.”

Cicely Walden led Rancho with 12 kills. Kelsea Healis handed out 27 assists and Madison Hotaling had 20 digs.

Ukiah’s record improves to 4-10 and 2-6. Rancho is now 9-13 and 2-6.
