Some of the Empire’s high school football teams did not play Friday, but will take the field today. Here’s a look:

CALISTOGA (6-0, 3-0 NCL II/Bay) at UPPER LAKE (0-6, 0-3 NCL II/Bay)

Kickoff: 2 p.m.

Last week: Neither Calistoga nor Upper Lake played.

Notable: Wildcats safety Timmy Montanez has eight interceptions and that ties him for No. 1 in the state … Teammate Dylan Alvarado has the best rushing numbers in the Redwood Empire. The 170-pound senior has run for 1,316 yards, an average of 219 per game. He also leads the Calistoga defense in tackles with 53 … Helping open holes for Alvarado is left tackle Mark Duffy. A transfer from Wisconsin at the start of the school year, Duffy is 6-foot-5 and weighs 215 … Although Upper Lake is winless, coach Paul Harrell is concerned about a letdown. “Complacency gets people hurt,” he said. “They want to kick our butts and we need to be ready.” … The Cougars have gone three games without scoring.

The pick: Calistoga

LAYTONVILLE (1-4, 1-2 NCL III) at MENDOCINO (5-0, 3-0)

Kickoff: 1 p.m.

Last week: Laytonville beat Potter Valley, 52-14. Mendocino did not play.

Notable: With 16 wins in a row, the Cardinals have the longest winning streak among schools in the Empire. Their last loss was Oct. 15, 2011, at the hands of Anderson Valley … Mendocino and the Warriors played on Sept. 13 with the Cardinals prevailing, 66-14. “Laytonville was missing several key players the first game,” Cardinals coach Theron Miller said. “They’re healthy now and it’s going to be a much tougher game for us.” … The most improved player on Mendocino’s roster is Thea Shandel. The freshman recently moved into a starting role on the offensive and defensive lines … This is senior day at Mendocino.

The pick: Mendocino
