Winners of three straight section titles and a 49-game undefeated streak, the Maria Carrillo girls’ soccer team will receive an honor recognizing the Pumas as the nation’s best.

MaxPreps will present the Maria Carrillo girls and coach Debra LaPrath with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy at the Pumas boys’ basketball game Thursday.

Maria Carrillo is one of 10 high school teams in the U.S. to be honored with a stop on the MaxPreps Tour of Champions for 2013 prep girls fall soccer.

The trophy recognizes Maria Carrillo finishing the season as the top team in the final MaxPreps national computer ranking.

This past season, Maria Carrillo won the program’s third consecutive North Coast Section Division 1 fall girls soccer title, and the Pumas’ fifth title overall.

The championship culminated a 20-0-1 campaign for 2013. With the win, Maria Carrillo has gone 49 games over three seasons without a defeat. The Pumas’ last loss was in the 2010 NCS title match.

The national computer ranking is one of the tools MaxPreps provides high school athletics. MaxPreps, a unit of CBS Interactive and a CBSSports.com website, allows prep teams to share schedules, results, statistics and rosters.

MaxPreps and the Army National Guard launched the Tour of Champions in 2005, with soccer added three years ago. The program’s other sports are football, basketball and volleyball.

A history of the program notes that being selected for a Tour of Champions trophy is rare.
