Girls wrestling: Empire stars looking to dominate at NCS championships

The North Coast Section girls wrestling championships begin Friday at Pittsburg High, with the finals set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Top three finishers advance to the CIF Championships Feb. 28 in Visalia.

A strong group of Empire wrestlers will battle for berths. Kelseyville’s Juliette Brown is 23-3 at 101 pounds.

Ukiah star Harmonie Roberts enters unbeaten (28-0) in the 106-pound class.

Windsor’s Aree Torres (23-7) is a challenger at 111, while Maria Carrillo’s Shaina Dowell (23-6) stars at 116. Rancho Cotate’s Randi McMahan (20-5) is a favorite at 121. Ukiah’s Alyssa Roberts (28-5) and Kelseyville’s Chariss Kaestner are tops at 126.

Casa Grande’s Ericka Mihalca enters the 131 weight class at 17-3. Carrillo’s Molly Trego (18-7, 143) and Rancho’s Cassidy Rodrigues (7-5, 170) are also contenders.

Middletown’s Jessie Flynn (25-3) is the top seed at 189. Rancho’s Vickie Espinoza is 16-0 at 235, where she could collide with Petaluma’s Michelle Larsen (19-1) in the finals.
