The Santa Rosa JC women’s basketball team spotted De Anza a 17-point first-half lead before roaring back to win, 60-52, in a Northern California CCCAA Regional playoff game Friday night at Haehl Pavilion.

The Bear Cubs, the No. 3 seed, began cutting into the De Anza advantage in the final minutes of the first half but still trailed 32-21 at intermission.

Santa Rosa completed the comeback when Stephanie Sack swished a 3-pointer with 10:56 remaining to give her team a 46-44 lead.

“We made it pretty hard on ourselves,” coach Lacey Campbell said. “Thankfully, it ended well.”

The Bear Cubs shot 20 percent from the field in the first half and 58 percent after the break.

“We hunkered down the defense in the second half and that set us up for some better offensive looks,” Campbell said.

Gretchen Harrigan, the state’s leading junior college scorer, finished with 26 points. The freshman came in with a 25.1 points-per-game average.

Sack wound up with 16 and Alicia Mehtlan contributed 10.

Harrigan (Casa Grande) and Mehtlan (Willits) are former All-Empire Players of the Year, and Sack (Casa) was a first-team All-Empire selection.

In Wednesday’s third-round game, the Bear Cubs will play the winner of tonight’s matchup between No. 6 College of the Sequoias and No. 11 Diablo Valley.
