Baseball: Empire teams conclude non-league play with weekend tournaments

Empire high school baseball teams wrap up non-league play with a showcase and a pair of tournaments over the next week.

EAST BAY-NORTH BAY CHALLENGE

Today’s annual tripleheader gives fans a chance to see some top prep programs at Cardinal Newman. Begun five years ago at the suggestion of the Dublin High School coach, the annual tripleheader moved to Cardinal Newman for its second year and has remained a fixture on the Cardinals’ home baseball schedule.

The lineup of games: Cardinal Newman vs. Alameda, 10 a.m.; Casa Grande vs. Dublin, 12:30 p.m.; Washington (Fremont) vs. Golden Valley (Tracy), 3 p.m.

The 20th annual tournament hosted by Montgomery opens Wednesday with eight games at sites across Santa Rosa. The championship and consolation finals are Thursday at Montgomery High School. Each team gets in three games.

Wednesday’s games: Chico at Montgomery, 11 a.m.; Petaluma at Santa Rosa High, 11 a.m.; Analy vs. Ukiah, at Doyle Park, 11 a.m.; Windsor at Piner, 11 a.m.

Second-round games at same sites, 2:30 p.m.

Thursday’s games: At Montgomery, 10 a.m.; at Doyle Park, 10 a.m.; at Montgomery, 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

ADAM WESTCOTT MEMORIAL

The 17th annual edition of this tournament hosted by Casa Grande features three days of baseball, Thursday through Saturday, at Casa Grande.

Adam Westcott was a junior and player at Casa Grande when he died in a car crash in May 1997.

Thursday games: Sonoma Valley vs. Maria Carrillo, 1 p.m.; Sonoma Valley vs. Eureka, 4 p.m.; Healdsburg vs. Cardinal Newman, 4 p.m.

Friday games: Healdsburg vs. Casa Grande, 10 a.m.; Maria Carrillo vs. Eureka, 1 p.m.; Casa Grande vs. Cardinal Newman, 4 p.m.

Saturday games: At Case Grande, 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
