Kiwanis adds all-star soccer games to docket


An all-star soccer doubleheader has been added to the calendar of all-star events sponsored by the Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club. The games will be May 17 at Montgomery High School with the girls all-stars kicking off at 5 p.m. followed by the boys all-stars at approximately 7 p.m.

The event will be structured in a North-South format that will allow players from large and small schools to compete together.

The alignment of schools:

North: Ukiah, Healdsburg, El Molino, Windsor, Piner, Santa Rosa, Cardinal Newman, Maria Carrillo, Cloverdale, Rincon Valley Christian and Analy.

South: Montgomery, Elsie Allen, Rancho Cotate, Technology, Petaluma, Casa Grande, Sonoma Valley, Tomales, St. Vincent, Roseland Prep and Sonoma Academy.

The coaches, who will select and prepare the 18-player teams, are Debra LaPrath of Maria Carrillo (North Girls), Chris Ziemer of Sonoma Academy (South Girls), Mike Mastin of Maria Carrillo (North Boys) and Lee Summerscales of Casa Grande (South Boys).

The soccer all-star games, which join the baseball all-star game on June 1 and the football all-star game on July 19, are key fundraising activities for the Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club.
