Empire duo reach CIF state track and field finals


Two Redwood Empire athletes qualified for today’s CIF state track and field finals in Clovis after preliminary contests on Friday.

Maria Carrillo’s Dante Hay finished eighth in the boys 800 meters prelims with a time of 1:53.95, and Petaluma’s Allison Scranton finished 11th in the girls discus (top 12 advance) with a throw of 132 feet, 3 inches. Also competing in the discus was Ukiah’s Allyson Millone, who finished 17th with a toss of 124-11.

Rancho Cotate’s Justin Zinnerman finished 10th in the boys high jump with a 5-7 leap.

Millone’s Wildcats teammate, Hugh Pegan, finished 15th in the boys 200 meters in 21.85.
Santa Rosa’s Morgan Bertsch notched a 15th-place finish in the girls’ high jump with a 5-5.

Casa Grande’s Nicholas Rauch finished 22nd in the boys 1,600 meters in 4:20.35.

Carrillo’s Alex Nethedra notched a 13th-place finish (38.74) in the boys 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

For running events up to the 400, the winners of the three heat races and the next six fastest times advanced to the finals. The 800 saw 12 runners move on to finals, with the heat winners and remaining fastest three from the heats advancing.

In the 1,600, the top four finishers from the two heats and the next four fastest times from both heats qualified for the final.
