Kiwanis All-Star Soccer set for Friday

Top soccer players from Sonoma County will converge on Santa Rosa High School Friday in one last show of athleticism for the final game of their high school careers.

The second annual Kiwanis High School All-Star Soccer games for senior boys and girls soccer stars will be the last displays of talent. The players from both the North Bay League and the Sonoma County League are all graduating seniors.

Divided into a North team and a South team — rather than by NBL and SCL — the teams are equally split to play a more competitive game.

Analy coaches Brittney Briones and Peter Meechan will lead the North girls and boys, respectively, while Sonoma Academy’s Chris Ziemer coaches the South girls. John Schwann, from Montgomery High School, rounds out the All-Star coaching staff as head of the South boys.

The Kiwanis Club also sponsors All-Star football and baseball games and is in the second year of hosting local soccer stars.

The soccer doubleheader begins at 6 p.m., with the girls teams kicking off and the boys following at 8:15 p.m. at Nevers Field at Santa Rosa High School.

General admission tickets are $12, $10 for seniors 65 and over and young adults ages 11 to 17. Children under the age of 10 are free.
