Vikings head to SRJC

Montgomery’s duo of Erik Poulsen and Michael Septimo have committed to play basketball next season at Santa Rosa Junior College.

Poulsen, a 6-foot-11 center, and Septimo, a point guard, were recently selected to the All-Empire first team.

“I’m excited to get both those players,” SRJC coach Craig McMillan said. “Both have huge upsides and hopefully they’ll go from the JC to a four-year university.”

Fitchie still working

Tom Fitchie, who coached Poulsen and Septimo at Montgomery, recently retired as head coach but will continue to teach at the Vikings summer basketball camp.

Assisting him will be Zac Tiedeman along with current and former players at the eastside school. There are sessions for players from third through ninth grades with the first class beginning June 8. For more information, email tomfitchie@att.net.

Hammell has offers

Corey Hammell, the All-Empire Player of the Year in 2013, is mulling scholarship offers from Alaska-Anchorage and Bemidji State (Minn.) now that his basketball career has ended at Santa Rosa JC (above). He will make his decision in a week or so. Hammell played for Cardinal Newman.
