Maria Carrillo junior Piper Brockley finished sixth in the girls 200-yard individual medley event at the California high school swimming championships in Clovis Saturday.

Brockley finished with a time of 2:02:51, about six seconds behind the winner, Ella Eastin of Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine.

Brockley was the lone Redwood Empire athlete competing on the second day of the first-ever state swimming and diving championship meet at Clovis West High School.

She qualified for the 200 IM finals with a time of 2:02:30 Friday but wasn’t a top finisher in her other event, the 100-yard breaststroke.

She finished second in the 200 IM and third in the breaststroke at the North Coast Section championships May 16, qualifying her for the state meet.
