Justin Bruihl, a 2015 graduate of Casa Grande, signed a scholarship offer to pitch at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.

Bruihl, a left-hander whose pitches have been clocked in the low 90s, got the scholarship offer despite missing a large portion of his junior season and almost all of the 2015 season while he recovered from Tommy John surgery.

Bruihl’s travel team coach, Dave Ayala, credited Bruihl’s hard work in recuperation and a devotion to workouts in the gym for Bruihl’s recovery. Ayala said Bruihl added 20 pounds in his workout.

Such a late scholarship offer is unusual for a college program but Cal Poly, which had been one of Bruihl’s favorites, had itself an opening and made the offer.
