Sonoma Academy cross country and track star Rylee Bowen finished last among 14 runners Friday evening in the 2,000-meter steeplechase race at the IAAF World Youth Championships meet in Cali, Colombia.

Bowen, selected by invitation to be a member of the U.S. team, was competing this week in the steeplechase for the first time in her running career.

Bowen finished with a time of 7:11.66, well off her qualifying time of 6:41 set at the USATF World Youth Track & Field Trials in Lisle, Ill. last month.

She had been aiming to finish sixth or better, which would have been the best steeplechase finish by an American female in international youth competition.
