JC men’s soccer

NorCal Playoffs

First Round

AT SANTA ROSA JC

Clovis 1 1 0 2 – 4

Santa Rosa JC 1 1 1 0 – 3

SRJC goals: Wilson Briggs (35th  minute, Jack Bailey assist), Ian Runbaugh (PK, 67th), Bailey (91st, Runbaugh assist)

Record: SRJC 16-2-2

Notable: The Bears Cubs’ season came to a disappointing end when Clovis scored with just 10 seconds remaining in the second overtime. Santa Rosa led 2-1 when the Bear Cubs were slapped with a red card in the 77th minute. A minute later Clovis tied it and the game went into overtime. Playing a man down, Santa Rosa scored in the first minute of OT, but Clovis tied it with a goal in the 110th minute before punching in the game-winner in the 119th minute.

“I was really disappointed we did not maintain discipline and received a justified red card, but I was really proud of how my players responded by playing a man down for 43 minutes,” Bear Cubs coach Marty Kinahan said. “You can’t expect to have success in the playoffs with one less player.”

The loss, just Santa Rosa’s second of the season, ended the Bear Cubs’ unbeaten streak at 12 games.
