NEIDLINGER GETS SRJC JOB
Damon Neidlinger, who led the Santa Rosa JC baseball team to a state
championship in May, has been offered a full-time coaching and teaching
position at the school.
Neidlinger, a longtime assistant for former SRJC baseball coach Ron Myers,
interviewed for the job the day after his team won the state title in Fresno.
Winning the title certainly helped Neidlinger's chances of going from
part-time to full-time at the school. It also helped seven players land
Division I scholarships.
Sophomore Stephen Pearson, who batted .529 and drove in 13 runs during the
Final Four, has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Arizona,
where he will join teammate Konrad Schmidt (.455, 6 RBIs).
Pitcher Tony Lombardi will play at East Tennessee State. Infielders Omar
Padilla (SE Missouri St.) and Jake Kahaulelio (Oral Roberts) also have
accepted scholarship offers. Pat Brooks and Ray Silva have been offered
scholarships at Texas Pan American.
* Myers will continue as interim director of athletics at SRJC, which has
reopened applications for the position. Myers has served as interim AD the
past two years but did not apply for the perminant position.
Myers said he will start the year in the position but did not know how long
it would take for the school to go through the hiring process following an
unsuccessful attempt to find a suitable candidate.
