The Pumas began their East Coast trip on a winning note Friday.|

Maria Carrillo’s girls soccer team began its East Coast trip on a winning note Friday as the Pumas defeated Immaculate Heart of New Jersey, 4-2.

Maddie Gonzalez scored twice to lead the visitors. The other goals were by Kelsi Ivana and Bria VarnBuhler.

Gonzalez and Ivana also had assists. Setting up the other two goals were Megan Sullivan and Briana VanGiesen.

Carrillo led 3-0 at intermission and substituted liberally in the second half.

“We played incredible in the first half,” coach Debra LaPrath said. “We utilized our speed on top and played intelligent.”

The Pumas wrap up their trip today with a game against Northern Highlands (N.J.).

Carrillo, the reigning NCS and NBL champion, is 3-0 this season.
