It's difficult attending a Cloverdale basketball or baseball game these

days without running across the Rowland name.

Richie Rowland, 6-foot-3, is the top scorer on the Eagles and a highly

rated catcher/pitcher. His brother, Robby, a 6-foot-5 freshman, averages 16

points a game and also is a pitcher/catcher.

And then there's dad, Rich, who was a three-sport standout at Cloverdale

who just happend to play pro baseball for 10 years, four seasons with Detroit

and Boston.

''I love listening to my dad's stories,'' Richie said. ''I would love to

play pro baseball like him.''

''Richie is a nice fit on our team,'' said Cloverdale coach John Gastineau.

''He's the lone returner from our championship team. He's a team leader with a

lot of experience.''

Rowland, who scored 24 points in Friday's league win against Upper Lake, is

looking forward to baseball season and an all-Rowland battery. The 18-year-old

wants to play college baseball and hopes to play in a strong amateur league

this season.
