Tioga Road closed for winter

Park officials say the highest elevation route through the Sierra Nevada is closed for the winter.

Tioga Road closed Tuesday between Crane Flat and Tioga Pass, the eastern entrance of Yosemite National Park at 9,945 feet elevation.

The scenic road is closed much of the year due to heavy snowfall and the threat of avalanches.

Glacer Point Road also is closed from Badger Pass to Glacier Point. A portion of that road will reopen when the season begins at Badger Pass Ski Area on Friday, snow conditions permitting.
