Truant elementary students cost North Coast school districts in Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake and Napa counties more than $20 million, according to a state attorney general's report.

Sonoma County's 12 percent truancy rate is one of the state's lowest. But the 5,000 truant students cost county schools $14 million last year.
